Camp Cooking

Part of the fun of travelling in the great outdoors is the camp cooking experience. On our odyssey around Australia, we'll be packing equipment that enables us to use a variety of cooking techniques and enjoy a range of delicious recipes and meals. Here's a run-down on how we are set up to make camp cooking simple and fun whilst on the road.

Stovetop

Our Offline Domino camper trailer comes equipped with a very functional pull-out kitchen with a Smev 3-Burner stovetop and a 95 litre fridge/freezer. The stovetop is great for frying, steaming and boiling food. With the gas already plumbed in, you can have the kettle boiling within minutes of arrival at your campsite.

BBQ

No camping experience would be the same without a great Aussie Barbecue. We have chosen the compact and portable Weber Baby Q to accompany us on our journey. The Weber is very versatile for BBQ, roasting, baking, frying and slow cooking. Yum!

Camp fire cooking

When you can have an open fire, there's nothing like the true camping experience of cooking over fire and hot coals. Our trusty Hillbilly Camp Oven will be put to use whenever possible for delicious stews, soups, damper and other baked goods.

Using seasonal and regional produce

Part of our journey is about enjoying a variety of foods from around the country and basing recipes on what's in season or what is a specialty of the region. Australia is blessed with an abundance of beautiful, fresh produce which is a gastronomic delight.

We also have a commitment to healthy eating and prefer the 'Mediterranean diet' which includes fresh vegetables, eggs, nuts, seeds, fruit, fish and other sources of lean protein with a lack of reliance on highly processed foods and takeaways. Buying fresh food from the farm-gate and local markets will make the whole food shopping experience so much more enjoyable!
