We love the Central West of NSW! Whilst the recent heavy rains have created havoc across the roads and highways, the upside is the dramatic and spectacular cascading waterfalls that are currently found across the region, as seen in the video below of Apsley Falls. The Central West of NSW has much to offer the adventure traveller - great food and wine, beautiful eucalyptus forests, majestic mountains, rivers, plains and waterfalls and an abundance of unique flora and fauna.
Coolah Tops National Park
Sitting at the junction of the Warrumbungle and Liverpool Ranges, the Coolah Tops National Park is a fantastic landscape of eucalyptus forest and grass trees. The Bundella Lookout offers vast panoramic views across the Liverpool Plains to the distant mountain ranges. Norfolk Falls provided a lovely spot for a picnic lunch.
Mudgee
A trip to the Central West of NSW is not complete without a visit to the beautiful town of Mudgee. The wine and food festival was underway and the vibrant colours of spring provided a colourful back-drop to our pre-lunch saunter through the town.
Dunedoo
Like many places across Australia, the town of Dunedoo is using silo art to celebrate the local fauna and flora, history and famous faces. This silo art includes famous retired racehorse, Winx, with her celebrated jockey and trainer. Painted by Peter Mortimore in 2020.
Bendemeer
The Macdonald River flows through the quiet village of Bendemeer, between Tamworth and Armidale. Great for a stopover and a meal at the famous Bendemeer Hotel.
New England Region
"Water, water eveywhere". The recent rains and floods have created a fabulous spectacle across the rugged gorges and dramatic waterfalls of the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park as you travel across from the New England region to the North Coast of NSW. It was magical to watch and listen to the roaring water as it cascaded over the steep cliffs into the massive gorges, leaving a fine mist in the valley below. We visited Apsley Falls and Tia Falls.
