Karri Karma

Giant trees, vast wilderness, turquoise water and fabulous summer weather - our stay in Peaceful Bay, nestled between Denmark and Walpole on the south coast of WA, was perfect in every way. It provided us with an opportunity to relax and enjoy the tranquil and awe-inspiring scenery that this area is famous for.

Valley of the Giants

A stay in this region is not complete without a visit to the Valley of the Giants tree top walk. Walking through the forest canopy, on platforms that are 40 metres above ground level, is a fabulous way to admire the majestic forest of Karri and Tingle trees that tower above you at 60-70 metres tall.

Join us on a birds-eye view of the forest:

Walpole and Mount Frankland National Park

The town of Walpole is surrounded by National Park and forested wilderness, so it's a great place for walking, swimming and enjoying all that nature has to offer. Mount Frankland National Park covers a vast wilderness of Karri, Tingle and Jarrah Forest and is dominated by a massive granite peak. One of the most impressive features was the giant tingle trees that survive in the area for us to enjoy. They are so majestic! Our necks hurt from looking ever-upward to see where the trees met the sky.

The Frankland River was not running too fast, but it did offer a few picturesque and tranquil places in the quiet parts of the forest to enjoy the serenity.

The protection of the wilderness was hard won, with protestors taking a stand at Swarbrick some years ago to halt the logging of old growth forests and protect these forest giants for future generations. A lovely art installation in the forest provided us with the opportunity to reflect on the beauty of the forest and send thoughts of gratitude to those who fought hard to protect it.

The coast surrounding Walpole is also magnificent. Our visit to Conspicuous Cliff gave us ample photographic opportunities to view the beach and river flowing into the sea on a gorgeous, sunny day. The Walpole and Nornalup Inlets were also lovely, with stands of tall, tranquil forest and calm waters.

Denmark

The village of Denmark and the surrounding area is another fantastic place for lovers of art and nature. The river running through the town was a haven for birdlife and the coastal features of William Bay National Park, including Greens Pool and Elephant Rocks, were absolutely stunning! We did manage to have a swim at Greens Pool, which is a favourite with locals and tourists, for good reason. It's hard to imagine water that is any better than this!

Peaceful Bay

Nestled between Denmark and Walpole, we found a delightful camping spot at Peaceful Bay that gave us good access to all the wondrous features of the region. Our site was located close to a lovely beach, protected from ocean currents by an offshore reef. We were fortunate to be visited by some beautiful feathered friends during our stay. The local fish was brought into the kiosk to be cooked for campers onsite - what a feast!

Next stop - into the Margaret River region
