Of all the great Australian river systems, the Murray is one of my favourites. It's a place of great natural beauty. On this trip, we stayed at the idyllic little town of Mannum, nestled on the banks of the Murray River as it slowly makes its way to the sea. From here, we could watch the magnificent and romantic paddle steamers go past - reminders of a distant past and the importance of river systems to the communities which have sprung up around them. The sunrises were magnificent (well worth the early start) and the birdlife is spectacular. A great place to slow down, unwind and relax.
